Detective Goof

My project will be done with one of my Forensic classes at the high school. I will work with the classroom teacher to create a crime scene. Students will be the detectives who are trying to solve the case, but as they are gathering the clues/information they are making mistakes. An example of a mistake: a student is collecting fingerprints but is not wearing gloves. There will be 10-12 mistakes made by the students and the students watching the crime scene will try to find the mistakes.

Project time frame:

1 hour. I think each class should be able to complete this in ½ for a total connected time of 1 hour.

How to sign up:

email:snoland@remc11.k12.mi.us

Project deadline:

We would like to do this toward the end of the school year so in April or May.

Number of classes to participate: 2

Type of connection: IP

Learner Outcomes:

Students will be aware of small mistakes that can be made at crime scenes that jeopardize evidence.

ethods and Activities:

Students will be told of the activity the day before in the classroom. The scene will be set up in the media center. The students gathering the evidence will be told what mistakes to make in advance. The classroom that we are connected to will only know how many mistakes to look for.

Materials:

Crime scene tape, gloves, outline of suspect, plastic bags for evidence, paper bags for evidence, tools, the crime scene (not sure what this will look like: office, living room, etc)

What will students do:

The students at my school will act out the parts while the other school’s students watch to see how many things they can find that were wrong. The students will wait until the entire scene is played out to give their findings. Teachers will make sure students are performing tasks.

Who will do each part:

Several students will be involved in being the detective. We will use the zoom and presets on the camera to follow the students as they go through the crime scene.

There are still some rough spots that we have to work on, but this is the gist of the project right now.

Thanks to Mrs. Klann for collaborating with me on this project.
