Are You Part of This World?

 

OBJECTIVE: Students will be able to support their personal opinion about recent events happening around the world through a VC interview.

 

GRADES: 6th up

 

TIME: 45 - 60 minutes

 

ACTIVITIES:

 

PRE:

 

1. Choose an international news and research several sources about it. The web, interviews, surveys, etc.

 

2. Get and e-pal and share your point of view of the news you selected. Be sure to support your arguments well.

 

3. As soon as you receive you e-pal's news and opinion, prepare a set of questions for the interview. It could be requests for expanding the information, direct questions, sharing your agreement, or expressing disagreement respecfully, etc. Prepare visual aids (charts, pictures, role-plays, etc).

 

WHILE:

 

4. At the moment of knowing your e-pal through VC and interviewing him or her, you will be able to show them your visual aids and sharing your personal point of view about the news with the necessary supporting statements, facts, examples, etc.

 

POST:

 

5. Self-assess your work by answering these questions.

 

a. Did I choose an interesting and recent news? b. Did I use enough information to support my point of view? c. Could I restate my e-pal's point of view accurately? d. Did my visual aids support my information clearly? e. Were my questions comprehensible and based on my e-pal's information? f. Could I listen carefully to my e-pal without interrupting him or her? g. Did I answer his or her questions briefly but correctly? h. Did I enjoy the activity? Why?

 

6. Prepare a written report to share with your teacher and classmates.
