Suggested Workshop Format

This format can be used and adapted for workshops from 1 hour to all day (or longer). Please add your own ideas using these instructions.

• Explain videoconferencing (see the SideBar for resources).

• Show examples of videoconference projects. Here are some resources you can use.
  • Videoconferencing Out on a Lim Blog (entries specific to collaborations)
  • Pen Pals QuickTime movie. This little clip of second grade students gives you an example of how a pen pals connection could happen.
  • MysteryQuest QuickTime movie. This movie is about 12 minutes long and gives you the flavor of the whole two and a half hour event for middle school geography students.
  • Where in Michigan movie. This movie also gives you a flavor of the whole two hour event for 4th grade students.
  • Read Across America QuickTime movie of student presentations. And Read Across America WMV Overview movie to introduce the project.

• If possible, have participants actually participate in some project videoconferences. You can do this by partnering up with another location for your workshop. Or connect to some students who have participated in a project. Teachers love to hear about videoconferencing from a students' perspective.

• Explain local scheduling procedures.

• Explain how to find partners (see the SideBar).

• Have the participants create their own project using these instructions. Feel free to add your own workshop name to the front page and add pages for your participants.
